Steven Klagsbrun (Chairman)

Steven Klagsbrun is a Senior Director and Chairman of KEBD. He was admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer in 1967 and has been in practice for 53 years. He has had experience in litigation, both civil and criminal, for 20 years (own appearances in Magistrate, Regional, Civil and Criminal Courts), trials and motions (including opposed). He has been actively involved as a conveyancer for more than 50 years, pioneered sectional title in Pretoria, and share block schemes country wide, which involved extensive contractual, commercial and corporate experience, including trusts, estate planning, wills and tax (resulting in migration to the corporate (commercial) contractual specialities in diverse guises). He has developed a loyal following of clients over more than 40 years, second generation and third generation, who have remained committed to KEBD. He served as Chairman of disciplinary committees of the Law Society for some 20 years, and on assessment committees.

Alan Edelstein (Managing Director)

Alan is the Managing Director of KEBD. He was admitted as an attorney and notary in 1982 and has been in practice for 38 years. He has right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa and Namibia.  Alan’s expertise is in commercial law, including advising on mergers and acquisitions, tax law (is a registered tax practitioner), assists in negotiation, formulation and drafting of corporate agreements.  He is an expert in estate planning, which includes drafting of wills and creation of trusts, and reducing estate duty. He has vast experience in general and commercial litigation and in particular arbitration matters.

Jean du Plessis (Senior Director)

Jean du Plessis is a Senior Director of KEBD. He was admitted as an attorney in 2002 and has been in practice for 18 years. He has been actively involved in, amongst others, the forestry, sawmilling, agriculture, insurance and transport industries for the last 18 years. He has developed a loyal following of clients who have remained committed to KEBD in its various forms over the years. He has experience in a wide variety of civil and commercial litigation.

Patricia Morgan (Director)

Patricia Morgan joined KEBD in 2005 and become a Director of KEBD in 2010. She was admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer in 2004 and has been in practice for 16 years. She is experienced in Deeds Office practice and has been a member of the Property Committee of the Pretoria Attorneys Association since 2007.

Specialist in property law related matters inclusive of the preparation and registration of residential and commercial bonds, residential transfers. Advises on Sectional Title schemes. Prepares and notarizes ante-nuptial contracts, notarial servitudes, notarial bonds and notarial cession of real rights. Oversees the bond cancellation department and acts as the local correspondent for numerous other law firms.

Malandi Pieterse (Director)

Malandi Pieterse is a Director of KEBD. She was admitted as an attorney in 2007 and has right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa. She has experience in a variety of civil, commercial and general litigation, Insurance law, as well as commercial due diligence investigations. She specialises in civil litigation with a focus on liability and delictual claim related matters. Her more than 13 years post-qualification experience has given her expert insight in respect of civil, insurance and general litigation, and more specifically litigation flowing from, amongst others, veld and forest fires, as well as motor vehicle collisions.

Ronie Nyama (Director)

Ronie Nyama is a Director of KEBD. He was admitted as an attorney in 2014 and has right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa. He specialises in tax law and has in recent years acquired vast knowledge in respect of Customs and Excise. He has experience in a variety of civil, tax, commercial and general litigation, inclusive of Customs and Excise litigation. He has many years’ experience dealing with tax-related matters and transactions on behalf of various clients across different industries, inclusive of the South African Revenue Service. He has been involved in several merger and acquisition transactions. He has assisted clients with voluntary disclosure programmes relating to the South African Revenue Service and South African Reserve Bank, as well as exchange control matters. Ronie has experience in respect of tax litigation in the Tax Court, High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, as well as other dispute resolution mechanisms. He is a registered Tax Practitioner with the South African Revenue Service.

Candace Schoeman (Director)

Candace Schoeman is a Director of KEBD. She was admitted as an attorney in 2016 and has been in practice for 4 years. She practises in the corporate and commercial department, specialising in general corporate and commercial transactions, including corporate restructuring, commercial contracts, cross-border transactions, Competition Commission merger notifications, registration of B-BBEE transactions and empowerment transactions, as well as the formation and registration of new commercial entities with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission. She has had experience acting for clients across a range of sectors, such as transport and logistics, agriculture and property development. Elizna Meyer (Director)

Elizna Meyer is a Director of KEBD. She completed a BCom (Law) and LLB degree in 2015, thereafter joining KEBD as a candidate attorney in 2016. She was admitted as an attorney in 2018. Elizna is part of the litigation team at KEBD with experience in building disputes, corporate and commercial law, debt collection, general litigation, competition litigation and correspondent litigation. She has a passion for tax law and is furthering her education and legal career, being enrolled at the University of Pretoria for an LLM specialising in tax law.

Eunice Davey is a junior Director of KEBD. She joined KEBD as a candidate attorney in 2018 and was admitted as an attorney in 2020. Christelle Le Roux Venter (Senior Associate)

Christelle Le Roux Venter is a senior associate part of the litigation team at KEBD. She attained her LLB degree at the University of Pretoria, and was duly admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Christelle has extensive practical experience and specialises in all aspects of civil and commercial litigation. In the past she has represented high profile clients in various High Courts around South Africa and has been involved with a number of successful outcomes with her matters in Court. She further gained valuable experience as the group legal advisor for a prominent retail company with its head office in Pretoria. Christelle is a member of the Pretoria Attorneys Association and the Legal Practice Council.
